How To Air Out Your House Properly

Over the years, you’ve probably heard countless of songs about lack of air, well, without it, you cease to exist.

Air is essential for sustenance of life for both plants and animals. You can live on days on end without food or a couple of days without water, but without air, you’re nothing.

As you’re aware, oxygen is a vital element and fresh air is everywhere enabling you to breathe without inhibition. Since time immemorial, people have been encouraged to take time out and go for a walk. Why? To catch a breath of fresh air. Nowadays though, things are different. Children rarely go out to play in the summer and adults spend long hours in stuff offices.

With numerous benefits of fresh air ranging from enhancing physical, emotional and physiological states, the importance of clean air shouldn’t be taken for granted. Let’s go through some of them.

HOW TO AIR OUT YOUR HOUSE PROPERLY

Fresh air is excellent in the digestion process

After any meal, be it a light breakfast of heavy dinner, you’ll need a timeout for the food to settle in your tummy. During this time, your digestive system works hard to break down the food into much-needed nutrients. Getting fresh air not only gives your digestive tract relaxation, it provides it with oxygen to break down the foods.

Betters your heart rate and blood pressure

Emphasis should be put on avoiding polluted/contaminated environment because your body is choked out of oxygen. This is a dire situation as your heart is pumping harder to supply your entire body with oxygen hence raising your blood pressure. In a clean environment, your internal organs work normally.

Bring you happiness

Yes. Just like the Pharrell Williams, song ‘Happy’ fresh air does just that. Your body contains serotonin, which is linked to good mood, relaxation, and happiness. What happens is, when you inhale a dose of fresh air, serotonin is triggered and…you know the rest…HAPPINESS.

Regulates your mood, cravings, and sleep

Imagine it’s a hot summer afternoon and you don’t feel like doing anything. The wind is still and stuffy, then suddenly a cool breeze passes through. You close your eyes and embrace it (as any normal person would do). Also, sleeping during the hot summer nights is a problem. That’s why many people sleep under an AC, which is not advisable because of the health issues can bring.

Makes stronger your immune system

Your body contains white blood cells, which are the protectors. They protect, fight and kill germs and bacteria in the body. White blood cells require oxygen for its function and a steady supply of it ensures your immune system’s protection.

You’ll have cleaner lungs

I bet the peeps smoking are reading through. It does work for you too, only for the healthy peeps. But it has a slight effect. Fresh air improves the airways of your lungs enabling improved cleaning and dilation of the lungs.

Sharper concentration and added energy

Fresh air enables you to have a sharper sense of concentration since your body requires 20% of your body’s oxygen. That means, the more fresh air, the more the oxygen thus improved energy levels.

How To Air Out Your House Properly

Why do you need to air out your house?

The benefits of fresh air to you are plenty. But you also tend to forget that when you go out for a walk, your house too needs air.

That’s understandable especially during winter when there’s a need to conserve energy and reduce costs. The benefits of a properly aired house are:

  • Removal of bad odors
  • Elimination of domestic pollutants like cleaning products, mold, ammonia and fungus spores
  • Ridding the house of tobacco after smell
  • Increasing oxygen levels which reduces CO2 from breaking and combusting

There are more than 3 things that ruin your home’s indoor air quality, so knowing how to air out your house is really important.

How To Air Out Your House Properly

So how can you effectively air out your house?

There are various ways how you can air your home but you have to know which method is the most effective. You may opt for an AC, air cleaners and purifiers, or stick to natural ventilation using your traditional windows.

The AC works great both in the summer and winter period but there is only one drawback. You’ll have to change the filter regularly to avoid contracting Legionnaire’s disease or Pontiac fever.

Air cleaners and purifiers are also great, but again, you need to change the filters regularly and that can get costly. I personally love my Honeywell Bluetooth Smart HEPA Air Purifier and the ability to control it with my iPhone. It also alerts my phone when there is a lot of pollen or allergens in the air and adjusts the settings on the air cleaner automatically to compensate. It takes the guesswork out of cleaning the air, but the filters are pretty expensive and need to be replaced twice yearly.

That leaves you with the windows. They offer natural ventilation and there’s no chance of you contacting any diseases. But you ought to know how to effectively use your windows during the airing process. Here are a few pointers to help you air out your house.

  • Air your house for 15 minutes as its quite enough for getting rid of the stale indoor air
  • Never leave your windows tilt-and-turn for the whole day as it cools the walls and takes a long time to heat the room back up
  • Only air before 10 am or after 9 pm keeping in mind not to open windows that are facing the street
  • Prioritize airing your kitchen and bathroom as they both benefit from it…then comes your bedroom and other rooms. If there’s a damp issue you should prioritize the rooms affected

You’ll have to agree that not everyone has the time to effectively air out your house. You might be caught up in work or other activities that you barely have the time. Luckily, there’s a way out for you as you can install automated window openers. This way of solving the problem was described in the blog of 12vactuators.com. We, in turn, will try to describe it briefly.

They are ideal for just about any type of window out there on the market today. The secret behind their operation is electric linear actuators. An actuator is simply a device that helps pull/push/lift a load. The use of actuators in window openers is favored because they:

  • Are eco-friendly as no fuels are used hence no risk of pollution to the environment
  • Require little to no maintenance throughout their lifetime
  • Can be incorporated with sensors to control the opening and closing when the inside and the outside temperature changes
  • Can incorporate systems such as remote for ease of control
  • Guarantee safety as they can sense a load like a human hand and stop their operation

So for you, the busy, the forgetful, a window opener is a lifesaver.

Now you understand that your home needs fresh air just as you do. You have something in common with your house; you both follow the flow of fresh air. As equally as it is important to air out your house, you need to know how to do it effectively. Having the knowledge at hand helps you save money, keep you and your home healthy and live comfortably.
